Role-playing at the KGK National Conference

From February 16 to 21 in Shibuya, Tokyo, Kirisutosha Gakuseikai (KGK) held a national student training conference called NET (National Evangelical Student Training). About 300 people attended under the theme of learning, stillness, and mission.

On the fourth day, Shinya Yoshizawa (General Secretary of KGK) delivered the message. He began, “This is a step before evangelism—it is becoming a neighbor to your friends,” and then he introduced key points to keep in mind when building relationships.

“Use appropriate places and opportunities, share about yourself, ask questions that touch the heart, and accept the other person,” he explained. He then invited participants to do role-playing based on these points. There were some surprised reactions; however, conversations resembling everyday student life began taking place all around the room once students split into pairs, with one playing a non-Christian and the other a Christian.

When we engage with others, not as targets of evangelism but as neighbors, opportunities to talk about faith will naturally arise. “I hope that wherever you are sent, there will be at least one friend who says, ‘If it’s something you believe in, I’m willing to listen.’”
